The video captures on these pages were taken from the original "raw footage" on VHS tapes. Each image is shown with a caption, and when the image is clicked, a full size version of that image will open in another window. The images on this page are from videos shot in 1987 in Hermosa Beach and Lomita.. The unfinished MikeVideo "Back to Lomita" was shot as Jim and I moved out of our apartment in Hermosa Beach and back to an apartment complex in Lomita. Three VHS tapes were filled with "footage" mostly unusable, in what turned out to be a great idea that was unrealizable as a video. Some of the best footage later showed up in "The Uncle Mike Story".

Hermosa Beach 1987: The original "MikeVideo" logo which is hand drawn, and was featured at the beginning of each edited "MikeVideo" at least until 1999. Hermosa Beach 1987: Jim Zabel, now living with me, his girlfriend Claire, who is now his wife of about18 years, and yours truly relaxing on a Sunday afternoon with the camera running. Claire is about to pour a glass of water on Jim's head. Hermosa Beach 1987: The record rack in the apartment in Hermosa. The thick discs at the bottom of the rack are CED videodiscs, the first collectible movie medium I bought, before videotape, before laserdiscs, and before DVDs. Hermosa Beach 1987: Out for a spin on my bike, a 1986 Suzuki Savage 650cc "Thumper". This is an image from the first pass of the tape, before any degradation. It is VHS, and only regular grade at that, before they invented Super VHS. This shot is fairly clear considering. Hermosa Beach: 1987 Mie riding his motorcycle. This is an image from the 2nd dupe of "The Uncle Mike Story" and is not very clear. Hermosa Beach 1987: Mike and Jim sing a tune together. This was just from some more rew footage shot in Hermosa Beach. Hermosa Beach 1987: "Back to Lomita" A sweeping view of the ocean from the deck of the apartment in Hermosa Beach on the day we moved. Hermosa Beach 1987: "Back to Lomita" Jim and I create the spontaneous "Back to Lomita" theme song with the camera running.   Hermosa Beach 1987: "Back to Lomita" A shot of the moving van. I have moved quite a few times, and have always lifted my own furniture from one place to another. This move was the only time I paid a moving service to actually do the heavy labor.
