"The LAST Beer" Cathy poem

You could say I was doing this for myself
Get myself back on the track
You could say I'm proving I'm okay
That I can be all I want to.

Well

You could say this.

I will say I'm doing this for you
I asked you --
I said only you can make me stop drinking
I didn't mean that you would have
to physically or mentally force me.
I just needed that help
Your presence commands
that I make myself a better person
            in your eyes

The times to look back and wonder
why "times before were better" are past
I will look ahead
And save a little of myself each day
to give to you.
