To My Sister
Looking deeply into her lonely basin One finds memories of past Relationships Straining to get out Robust little girls playing jumprope in the elementary schoolyard scarcely knowing that the little boys who're on the football field could someday be Rhett Butlers She grows up wishing for Imaginary Moccorroccos Turning round and pro- Posing to her But the dreams all fade with highschool beaux who sit next to her in englishclass deciphering her looks and giving her the right answers to last week's poetry assignment And the poetry in her eyes Is unmatched And all know it. I can see now she misses her highschool beaux And those jumpropes But there's more to life now Even in a new house she can't always be thinking of Betty (Jo) and Gale and Kathy and Monica and Patti and the rest New friends will come soon Old friends stay sweet When you meet downtown in 12 years But the most lasting in your Present Are the present friends you make Your own Moccorocco is waiting also
