A Christmas Poem

Merry Christmas...
During the holiday,
We look upon the vast expanse
Which we have called life

Everybody recites jingle bells
While in their hearts rests a dirge

But isn't it great we can face the
Holidays with blithe spirit?
Happy is really only a word
But we'll treat it as an experience

At least until Christmas is over.

It's too bad Santa Claus died
When we grew up
Because that forlorn Christmas tree
Will never have the presents it did
When we were young

No matter how insignificant they were.

At this time of year
We wish vehemently to be closer
To other people
So we can all enjoy the Christmas feast
together.
But we won't be--really...
   So I'll eat my dinner
   And look at my tree
And think of you
And of the world
Hallelujah!
