"Countdown to the Millennium"

I haven't witnessed the millennium yet, not a whit whets my appetite yet.
Twas going to be crazy, I bet, but I haven't seen the millennium yet.
As the hourglass sifts lazily away,
And devout and self-righteous will pray,
Methinks we all have feet of clay,
But the millennium's not upon us today.

Some party like it's 1999
And the end of the world's just a shrine,
But they don't fool anyone it's a crime,
And the millennium's not upon us today.

In a lightyear or so one will surmise,
That the populace acted unwise,
And a year plus seven months down the road,
The millennium shall be fortold.
It's beginning, but it's not over yet,
And I hope we never forget,
And we never lose the smallest bet.
And leave no one in our debt.
