The
first poem written in 1999 was my "birthday" poem, "bornagain"
on May 1. The poetry of 1999 are the first "cyberpoems".
For the very first time in my life, and to gain credibility for
my "online life" which I established also on my birthday
with the creation of the allthingsmike website, I wrote my poetry
electronically, instead of with a pen and paper. Even up until
the mid-nineties, I was transcribing to typewriter when I wanted
written copies of my poems. As a result, the poetry of 1999 and
the Aughts is "typed" first, as the poems formulate,
rather than written by hand, and that causes the poetry, like
everything else in the age of information, to get "speeded
up". I write less as I age, and hopefully the poems I do
write are more than just cookiecuts of the poetry which receded
them.
