"Anatomy of the Relationships"

Yes I always thought of life's answer as a relationship
But without relation to another, the thought
is but a word, perhaps a relationship with
No core, a sore remark and no connection

Relationship was the answer in countless poems
In thoughts diverse, in melancholy deep
The simple answer to an eon of questions

Are you the one for me? Are you out there?
Do you exist? And for me, a relationship didn't
I whistled at tragedy, drank those
gallons of beer; partied with a
false jollity which soured all thought
Of relationship's facts.

And with none relative to compare
One realizes life was unfair.
But then soon I was to realize my share
At relationship's door
Enough to now understand that
Relative to nothing
A ship's adrift on the sea
No bearings with which to chart a course
Of course
No relation ship to shore
I had forgotten what the relationship was for.

Yes, now I know that there are more
than one relationship.
A relationship with lonliness
A relationship with hedonism
A relationship with confusion
A relationship with sadness
One thing is relative to another
As I am relative to you,
Dear Pat

I choose not to peer too deeply into
the relationship in order to analyze
things which only I appear to see.

I can only say what I feel at
relationship's doorstep.
I feel relatively far away right now
Proud really
And connected to no one save myself
Connnections form relationships.
And the connections within the
many relationships are hard to
decipher.

So sometimes it just makes sense
To reach out again.
I'm only afraid, Pat, of what
I should find.
