"Forty PART ONE"

Were we dealt all the cards we were playing with?
Or did we have time to trade in a new deal?
Were the easy answers given to the 'if's'
we asked in youth?
Did we hear the rules and guidelines
as we suffered for the truth?

Are the children growing up to smite us
As the world slides deeper down the hole?
Can I live a happy outlook or
must I play another role?

At once, I'd feel the fool for love
Climbing the rock of indifference,
Gaining a foothold of emotion
Naked to the elements.

But the love, albeit waiting for
just a tad too long in time,
Came through some how wrong.

I can't write poems to you
When you refuse to read them
I can't love you when you
Refuse to accept emotion.

But you never gave me cause to
believe something else would happen.
No one can be blamed for the dreams
which won't come true

We can only hope for a sudden
plot twist in the next act.

And dealer, please get a new deck
for the next game.

cause the game's not over yet.
