Poem for the New Year 1986

Maybe I gave up Maybe I'm not so smart
Maybe I forced a feigned facade
To cover an unplayed part.
Maybe may be too strong a word
And words fail me every day
Wishing for something humongous to happen
Daily life gets in the way.

Maybe I closed up Maybe I never knew why
Maybe I never did know how to cry
Maybe could be procrastination
I wait for the right one to arrive
Eternity's just round the corner
Inviting me to live the lie.

Maybe
Maybe

Maybe I'm used up Maybe I expect too much
Maybe the glue I've been using
Won't stick to relationship's touch.
Maybe might be a good loser
The light will flick on once again
Wishing for something delicious to happen
Frenetically covering the pain.

Maybe, maybe
Maybe.
