"Easter Basket '83"
I. Forgotten memories forged whole at a younger age Certain repetitions serve a troubled existence A million prayerbooks crying in the sun I will remember other lives at once in memory How again on certain days at certain times In certain situations spend some time Remember small bright smiles in prayer Gazing upwards at unknown salvation Let us gather prayerbooks for the podium And sing with lust of holy days While memory closes the screen door And jogs out to play II Easter present Easter future Old movies create instant nostalgia For times which exist only in memory A grisly crucifixion story Pounds on unhearing ears But the fear lives on and on Do not heed the heckling calls Breaking traditionaly morality And little Billy waits for the rabbit And the egg is on my face Again.
