"Irrespective Interlude"

Friday, February 13th, 2004 5:17 p.m.pst
(an exercise in spontaneous poetry 4)

Driving steadfastly on the freeway of life
Offering no alms for freedom as the traffic slows
Just lock ourselves up in our cars
and wait for the light to turn green.
Cacophanous conversation blaring from
a thousand radios,
Opinionating the obvious
Calibrating the celebration.
Punditizing the prattle....
And armed with these tools we brave the day's battle.

Aiming farther than the skies of life
Paying no heed to the birds we knock down
Just hurtle careening into the air
And hope no planes are coming this way
Shrilling scintillation glinting
off the wings of oblivion
Ruinating the especial
Painting the sky black
Gumming up the works
And given these dreams we wish away life's sad quirks.

I am playing my Irrespective Interlude
Dancing through the pagan joys of life
Worshiping the gods of gallantry and ineptitude
And whistling past these fallacies of strife.

Driving steadfastly
Eyes on the prize.
Irrespective Interlude
Pagan joys of life.
