Blending Trends In the 21st Century Cinema The sad fact of recent American Cultural History concerns the cut and paste ethic of modern art. Literature,
movies, music, all modern excuses for any sort of artistic merit in cultural
expression negates the obvious, and pastes proven elements into a multi
experiential mix engineered not only to instantly entertain, but to elicit
fond memories of the originals for those who remember. By
incorporating proven iconological influences into any modern mix, the “artist”
is appealing to nostalgia on the one hand, and insuring that he is
entertaining to the current younger audience by only incorporating that which
is proven. Thus,
certain cultural references always remain blended. This
theory is proven wholesale when you look at the movie industry in particular,
which is the subject of the first
essay in the “Blend” section of the Cultural Blender. |
